One of the most boring Oscars of recent memory just came to an end.
Simple boredom is one thing, different things bore different people.
But this Oscars will forever be tarnished by the controversy surrounding it.
No, am not talking about #OscarsSoWhite.
I simply don’t care about whether millionaire actors feel entitled and then slighted and then start whining.
If you are good enough, you will get nominated – like Denzel, or Jamie Foxx or Samuel Jackson or Morgan Freeman etc.
This year there was noone with a standout performance who deserved to get nominated.
So stop whining.
Blurring the lines and obfuscating do not help anyone.
The real issue is giving black actors and actresses good roles. The problem lies there. Studio heads and producers still can’t go beyond the standard white men and women when casting protagonists.
Blame them, not the Academy people.
Furthermore, the more important issue is about how many non-white editors, cinematographers, dressmakers, set designers, make up people, technical people etc are out there.
So Oscars so white my fat black ass.
Then there is the Leo controversy.
What Leo controversy you ask?
Well this year, the Academy decided to give Leo an award.
Its like a Lifetime Achievement thing.
The controversy arises because they gave the lifetime achievement thing under the guise of Best Actor.
Its the result of an internet campaign, and thus, a political award, not an award based on merit.
His previous nominations
- 1993 – Who is Eating Gilbert Grape
- 2005 – The Aviator
- 2007 – Blood Diamond
- 2014 – Wolf of Wall Street
He did not win any of those and his fanboys and fangirls could not digest that.
But just look at history shall we?
You know the top movies up for awards in 1993?
Schindler’s List, Jurassic Park, Piano, Philadelphia, The Fugitive, Mrs. Doubtfire
You know who Leo’s rivals were?
Tommy Lee Jones (winner), Voldemort, John Malkovich and Pete Postlethwaite.
Leo did not deserve the award.
In 2005, he went up against Clint Eastwood, Johnny Depp, Don Cheadle and Jamie Foxx (winner).
Leo did not deserve the award.
In 2007, he went against Ryan Gosling, Peter O Toole, Will Smith and Forest Whitaker as Idi Amin (winner)
Whitaker’s was head and shoulders above the other performances.
That leaves 2014
Have you seen Dallas Buyers Club?
How was Leo more deserving of the award than Matthew Mc? All Leo did was pretend to have drugs and have detailed looks at Margot Robbie’s vagina. Unless Miss Robbie is the poster girl for “All that glitters is not Gold”, that must have been a pretty vagina, and as such not at all unpleasant for Leo.
So, at no point in history was Leo ever undeservedly snubbed by the Oscars.
So whats with the Lifetime Achievement Awards this year? Its all become way too political.
Plus why are we encouraging cruelty towards animals anyway.
Revenant the movie is a snuff film about animal cruelty and as such should have been banned.
But no, just because its Leo doing the cruel stuff, its apparently all cool.
If you really want to talk about snubbing, let me tell you about the two best acting performances of this year that were snubbed by the Academy.
The best side actor in all of Hollywood last year was BB8.
It wasn’t even nominated.
The best actor in all of Hollywood last year was the bear from Revenant.
He/she wasn’t even nominated.
These snubs just prove the complete speciesist attitude of the Academy.
Statistics have shown that 100% of the Academy voters are human and as such discrimination towards non-human entertainers is rampant.
These non human entertainers are exploited to an inch of their lives, they are forced to perform against their will and flogged to within an inch of their lives.
Not only are they not paid compensation, they are not even allowed to earn the plaudits and awards.
How long will this discrimination continue?
That’s the real controversy.
